The unique characteristic of using plants in medicine is that they contain hundreds to thousands of molecules that can synergize to create safe and powerful treatments. The use of Cannabis sativa plant in cooking is an effective way to create highly medicinal foods. Throughout the evening, we’ll learn about the medicinal science of cannabis and a simple method for preparing cannabis infused butter or oils with proper dosing. Dr. Lisa Julian (organic chemistry Ph.D.), owner of Elevated Yoga & Holistic Health in Frisco with nearly 15 years of experience in medical and pharmaceutical research, will show how cannabis infused oils can be used in combination with other foods to create molecular synergy to benefit human health.
Anandamide the “bliss molecule” from the word ananda in Sanskrit meaning bliss, is a natural molecule found inside the body. Its discovery in 1992 initiated the entire field of study dedicated toward understanding how these “cannabinoids” (the class of compounds that act on certain receptors) work in our bodies. We now know that these special compounds are involved in processes relating to pain, inflammation, appetite, depression, memory fertility, and immunity. It has been shown that THC (tetrahydrocannibol) and cannabinoids found in the Cannabis sativa plant can affect molecular pathways in the body similar to our own. As a result, marijuana has been used to treat symptoms of pain and nausea since the 1980’s. More recent research now shows that the cannabinoid receptors play a role in cell growth and cannabis is currently being investigated as a treatment for cancer.
Cannabis has powerful therapeutic potential! Join us at the Cultivating Spirits Eatery in Silverthorne for a Cooking with Cannabis demonstration with an emphasis on health. Teachings on the proper techniques for making cannabis oils at home, while discussing the science behind the health benefits of Cannabis in a fun environment is what you’ll get out of this class. Enjoy an appetizer and a dessert that’s prepared in front of you, although it’s very tasty it’s not infused with cannabis due to Colorado State laws.
